TWiG5: This Week in Grade 5

Welcome back and Happy New Year! We hope everyone had a restful and wonderful holiday! 

Reminders: 

1. ASA's start back up this week

2. Don't forget to check the lost and found outside of the playground monitors office if you are missing something. 

3. Wednesday Jan 17 there will be a new parent orientation, 8:00-9:00, for families that are just joining CAC

CURRICULUM CORNER

Reading Workshop & Writing Workshop

Students will continue to research within their chosen topics and begin the publication process this week. We will be reviewing the strategies we have talked about and continue to work on the revision and editing stages. Students will be working in their partnerships for the editing process. 

Math Workshop

We will begin Module 4: Multiplication and Division of Fractions and Decimal Fractions this week. Students will begin this week with an exploration of fractional measurement. Students will construct line plots by measuring the same object to different accuracy's of an inch. They will then use what they know about graphs to interpret the data. 

Science 

We will pick up where we left off in our animal and plant adaptation unit this week. We will be looking at our science project and will be going over the expectations and research for that project. Together we will use the Big 6 Research model to demonstrate what the process will look like for the students using the Desert Biome. After we go through this process together, students will pick a Biome of their own and repeat the process for their plant and animal adaptation. 

Circle Solutions

It's a new year and what a great time to look at new starts and positive beginnings. We will be looking at positive affirmations. Students will be looking at and sharing quotes that will get them ready to have a positive growth mindset for the new year.
